Vegan Cacao & Vanilla Hot Chocolate
Winter is on its way and this cold weather has got us wanting to curl up on the sofa, in an oversized sweater with the World’s largest hot chocolate. But with your average hot chocolate being a sugar nightmare, it can leave you feeling bloated and sluggish.
Don't worry though, we've got you covered! This guilt-free hot chocolate recipe is actually good for you, yes, you heard us right, good for you! Eating healthy isn't about sacrificing all the treats we like, but about swapping out the bad ingredients for some good ones. So switch out your usual tub of hot chocolate for some raw cacao powder.
Raw cacao is full of lots of beneficial, essential minerals and vitamins and combined with coconut or almond milk and a hint of natural vanilla it is just as delicious.
Cacao is the rawest form of chocolate and is high in antioxidants (40 times more than blueberries!!) and magnesium which is good for a healthy heart and brain. It also contains more calcium than cow’s milk, is the highest source of plant based iron and is a natural mood elevator and anti-depressant, which will leave you feeling great inside and out.
Ingredients (Serves one)
1 Tbsp Raw Cacao Powder
1-2 drops Organic, Pure Vanilla extract
1 cup Almond or Coconut Milk (our favourite is coconut)
Pinch of sea salt
1 tsp of agave or natural maple syrup if you have a bit of a sweet tooth
Instructions
1.In a pan heat up the milk gradually, stirring as you go
2.Once the milk has come to the boil, add in the cacao powder, vanilla, sea salt and optional sweetener then whisk until blended.
Then serve. It’s easy as that.
*For an extra nutty taste why not add half a teaspoon of a nut butter of your choice and stir in until blended
Additional Toppings
Whipped coconut cream
Cacao Nibs or chopped nuts
